West Ham Unite striker, Andy Carroll, won’t return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in January, some sources have learnt.
The English International was loaned out to the Hammers close to the transfer deadline date in the summer, as Brendan Rodgers deemed the striker’s playing style to be at odds with his philosophy.
Originally, it was the Ulsterman’s plan to land in another striker to fill the void of Carroll. Clint Dempsey had, at that time, appeared as the favourite choice. However, the American International instead opted to move to Tottenham Hotspur, leaving the
Reds empty handed from the transfer window.
The club’s failure to bring in the 23-year old’s replacement cost them dearly, as they were left to operate with just Luis Suarez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-Borini-c13163 upfront. Things got from bad to worse as the latter sustained a serious foot injury, ruling him out for almost
six months.
Consequently, rumours started to emerge that Rodgers will recall Carroll in the January window in order to ease his attacking problems. The striker has had an innocuous spell at Upton Park so far and is currently nursing a hamstring injury.
Despite the Reds need for a forward, it is highly unlikely that Carroll will get a return call from Rodgers.
Earlier, the Anfield chief had stressed his point that the player he was sent on loan to get more playing time. Hence, he ruled out the option of recalling him in January.
“It's not something I've considered, to be honest. Andy's a player who has gone out to get games, and that's what's happened. Obviously, we have people watching Andy when he plays, and report back on how he's doing. But at this minute, Fabio's situation
has just come up, so we'll assess it from there,” he is reported to have said.
“The most important thing is winning games. That's what we need to do. And in order to do that as often as we can, I need the best players on the field.”
Liverpool signed Carroll for a mammoth 35 million pounds transfer fee in January 2011, making him the most expensive English player in history. However, he failed to live up to his billing, notching up just 11 goals in 58 appearances in all competitions.
Although the burly forward was in ominous form in the closing stages of the previous term, it did not prevent Rodgers from loaning him out to West Ham.
So far, he has represented the Hammers in 9 league games and has got just a single goal under his belt.
