No races on Day 2 of 2012 OK Dinghy World Championship – Sailing Update
After a successful finish of the first day proceedings of the 2012 OK Dinghy World Championship on the Vallensbaek waters, the fleet was all set to start the second day with new ambitions and hopes but all their dreams vanished when the race committee announced
that there will not be any racing on Day 2.
The fleet had to wait for a long time before the race committee made the announcement of not racing. The weather conditions on the second day were a bit light as the breeze was gusting around four knots over the racing area.
However, after some time, a Danish heat wave struck the racing area which made the racing impossible for the day and the fleet had to pack up. The situation was indeed embarrassing for the fleet but they had no choice.
The top podium holder of the fleet, Germany’s André Budzien has maintained his leading position with five points. Other sailors in the fleet were not happy with the situation as they had all preparations to improve their position. Sweden’s Björn Allansson
was one of the emerging sailors who participated in the races.
Allansson spoke to the local media about his recent experience in the event, “It's interesting actually. I am learning a lot every single time I am out on the water. So for me it's very different from sailing the Finn for six years, to do something different.
I have only been in the OK since after Kiel Week this year.”
He added, “It's a really friendly fleet and I am trying my best but they really make me fight for every position. I expected the quality to be this good but I was also expecting my own performance to be a bit better.”
The sailors are hoping for some racing on the third day of the 2012 OK Dinghy World Championship. The race committee is also looking forward for a fruitful day ahead.
Overall standings at the end of the regatta:
1. GER 762 André Budzien = 5 points
2. DEN 1393 Rene Johannsen = 9 points
3. DEN 1374 Bo Petersen = 10 points
4. AUS 749 Roger Blasse = 18 points
5. NZL 544 Greg Wilcox = 20 points
6. DEN 1411 Jørgen Svendsen = 23 points
7. DEN 1398 Christian Hedlund = 26 points
8. NZL 542 Alistair Deaves = 28 points
9. SWE 100 Thomas Hansson-Mild S = 31 points
10. DEN 1377 Jørgen Holm Nielsen = 31 points
