No races on Day 4 of 2012 Finn Gold Cup, Ben Ainslie remains on top of leader-board
After a superb finish of the fourth day proceedings at Falmouth, the 2012 Finn Gold Cup fleet was ready to take on the challenges of the regatta but unfortunately, all their hopes died when they heard the announcement of no racing on the fourth day. The
reason was lower winds which were not enough to launch the Finns into the Falmouth waters.
Great Britain’s Ben Ainslie was impressive on the third day proceedings of the regatta and was able to hold on to his overall lead in the standings. The British sailor clinched two bullets on Day 3 proceedings which kept him on the leading podium spot.
Ainslie was aiming to retain his top spot repeating the third-day form but due to the cancelling of Day 4 races, he was not able to fulfil his goals. However, despite not sailing on fourth day, he retained his top spot with seven points after six races.
The weather was not supportive from the start of the day and the race committee postponed the racing for a while to let the breeze fill in first. However, unfortunately the winds remained on lower knots over the racing area which was not enough for a competitive
sailing.
After a while, the breeze started gusting around from six to seven knots and the fleet was sent into the waters to begin the racing but as they launched their boats, the winds dropped and the participants had to come back to the shores without completing
any race.
