Question:

No registered keeper's signature on V5?

I just bought a car. The man I bought it off of gave me the V5 and said to complete it and post it when I got home. However, now I'm home I see that he wasn't the registered keeper, he bought from a lady, gave her the new keepers' supplement (I presume, because it was missing) and then didn't send it off to change him to the registered keeper. I now can't send the V5 off to put my name on it because I need the signature of the lady who had the car originally, who I've never met.

What can I do?

  1. I don't like to worry you unduly, but the guy was either a dealer in disguise or a thief. He should have had the new keeper's supplement, the rest of the V5 should stay with the vendor to send off  to advise DVLA that she had disposed of the vehicle. I think your first step is to have a talk with DVLA about this.

  2. just give the dvlc your details & that of the person you bought it from...send your 25 quid & get your new log book...thats how much it costs...i know...i just applied for mine.

  3. just send it off with a letter explaining the situation as long as u r legal and doing ur bit the rest is not ur problem

  4. Just sign it yourself

  5. just do what everybody else does in your prediciment...scribble a signiture..makes no differance...send it awaywith your details andit will co,me back in your name.

the reason the seller didnt send it away is that it keeps 1 less previous owner off the books.
