No regrets for Jose Jurado over Schalke move
Jose Jurado does not regret leaving Atletico Madrid for German Bundesliga club Schalke. The 24-year-old midfielder said he is happy to play in Germany and does not consider the move as a step backward.
"Schalke made me an offer to be an important player here and they convinced me. Leaving Atletico was not a step backwards, quite the contrary in fact. This is a great club, and they believed in me. I was not a permanent fixture in the team at Atletico,"
said Jurado during a chat with online users at Eurosport.es on Thursday.
He also cherished his stay with the Spanish La Liga club. "When I was in Madrid, I wanted to succeed in the first team but it was not to be. However, I managed to win two European titles with Atletico, and that is unforgettable," said Jurado, who moved to
the German club in the summer transfer window.
Jurado has nothing but praises for his current club and the Bundesliga as a whole.
"Here (the Bundesliga) the teams are stronger and there is a more physical style of play. I was also impressed with the stadiums, and I think it's just a matter of time before we can get a run of two or three wins together to move up the table."
A product of Real Madrid's youth system, Jurado began his professional career with the club's team B in 2003. He was elevated to the first team in 2005 but only played in three matches.
Jurado moved to Atletico the following year where he achieved success. He was also loaned to Mallorca during his stint with Atletico. Jurado received a lot of playing time while with Mallorca and was the club's second leading scorer in the 2008-09 season.
Jurado has also played for Spain's under-17, under-19 and under-21 national teams.
