No rest for the wicked, as Ted's Folly goes for a seventh win on the trot in the Lecomte
Steve Martin’s 2-year-old colt, Ted’ Folly, after nailing six races at Remington Park in its fall meet including the Springboard Mile on 10 December, 2011, looks to a switch of venues to participate in the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes at about 1 mile 70 yards
on dirt at Fair Grounds race track on 21 January, 2011, and the race will be restricted for 3-year-olds only.
Trained by Wilson L. Brown, Ted’s Folly, the Oklahoma bred juvenile colt is the son of Wild Tale, out of mare Tricksword by Sword Dance, is exiting a victory in the $315,000 Remington Springboard Mile, a race which capped off his six race win streak at Remington
Park.
He downed Reckless Jerry and Pee H Dee, who finished second and third, respectively, in the 1 mile long test over the Remington Park’s dirt course under jockey J Medina , as the pair went on to top the distance in 1 minute and 38.90 seconds.
It was a significant rally from Ted’ Folly to start from last and power down the stretch like a locomotive to win the race by 1 ¼ lengths. His previous races have been over a distance of 6 furlongs or less and it was the first time he went over that mark
and earned himself a Beyer Speed Figure of 75.
“We all know that he can run a mile, and it looks like he can run further than a mile,” Brown said. “He just looked like he was going on.
“What impressed me was him beating some horses who had been two turns already.”
If Ted’s Folly, keeps on winning like the way he is doing right now, then it won’t be long that Wilson Brown thinks of him as a Kentucky Derby prospect, and he would have figure that out quickly and put him on the Kentucky Derby trainer next year in May.
It would be a great sight to see an Oklahoma bred in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby lineup, hopefully he has the class to make it down the derby line, but so far the juvenile colt has looked impressive in his debut season.
