No separate window for IPL, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 – Cricket News Update
The Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Haroon Lorgat, has revealed that the governing body is not prepared to allow a separate window for the Indian Premier League (IPL).
There has been an on-going debate in the cricketing world regarding the schedule of the cash-rich league and there is a school of thought that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 should include IPL in the Future Tours Program (FTP).
However, the outgoing Chief Executive is of the opinion that if ICC accommodates IPL, then it will have to take care about the schedules of other leagues as well.
Haroon said, "The consequence of that (an Indian Premier League window) is what do we do with the Big Bash League?". What do we do with other premier leagues - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 has one."
The glamorous tournament is usually played in April and May every year and collides with a number of international competitions, which is the reason why many star-players prefer to play IPL instead of representing their respective
countries.
At the present moment, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Bravo-c1379 have consistently played IPL and have compromised over international sport.
Lorgat admits that IPL is followed all around the world and is more popular than other domestic tournaments around the globe but believes that all the members are same for the governing body and ICC cannot afford to discriminate.
"I know people might say the IPL is the premier league, but once you provide a window for one particular member, you have to be conscious of the fact you may well have to do it for other members. Hence why we have not been supportive
of a window specifically for any one of those domestic leagues," he added.
Since the last five years, ICC has been labeled as a puppet by many former cricketers, who believe that the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) is having great influence in world-cricket. This however, is a positive step
taken by the ICC and it must make sure in future that international sport remains the priority of all the cricket boards.
