No shortage of drama with Albert Pujols and Michael Young in offseason – MLB News
Most fans and experts that follow Major League Baseball even during the offseason have been captivated by the ongoing drama on two different issues of Albert Pujols and Michael Young.
It seems that St. Louis Cardinals’ Albert Pujols wants to be paid close to or at least at the same level as the New York Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez. This is roughly around $275 million for close to 10 years. However, the Cardinals are dodging the issue as Pujols
is tremendous player that many experts feels is at the same level or maybe even slightly better than Rodriguez.
Pujols has performed game after game for the Cardinals and it looks as if his contract is of relative concern for the team. Pujols has different ideas as he is looking for a better value and may be searching elsewhere for it. This issue has created quite
a bit of drama in the Cardinals’ camp right before Spring Training is about to begin.
On the other hand, Texas Rangers’ Michael Young is upset at the way he has been treated by the club. He is one of the longest serving players for the team and he is unhappy at the possibility of down-grading his position to designated hitter. Something he
is not comfortable with, as is the recent acquisition of Adrian Beltre to play at his position.
Young has been consistent with his performances for the Rangers as he has a batting average of .308 and 138 homers with 700 RBIs in his eight years with the team. He is tremendous player and has put in some very memorable performances for the Rangers. The
drama which is taking place in the Rangers’ camp is unfortunate as Spring Training is basically here and the team will be looking to work something out quickly before ruining their chance to get in some decent workout sessions.
Regarding the entire issue Young said, "I want to be traded because I have been manipulated and misled in the process, and I'm not going to take it anymore."
This is a pretty serious situation for the Rangers, Young is their senior most player and his thoughts of wanting to be traded can send shivers in the Texas locker-room. This can have a serious chain effect and get the other players thinking of their contracts
and other issues that they might not agree with. One thing for certain, if these issues are not resolved, the Rangers risk losing one of their best players and quite possibly ruining their regular season as well.
It will be interesting to see what the Cardinals and the Rangers do to fix these issues and bring some normalcy into their respective camps as the regular season is closing in.
