  1. Had the same problem at my home.

Put my dish on a tripod that raised it about six feet, and gave me a clear shot around the tree.

  2. If you can't move it, then there's really nothing you can do. Without a clear view of the southern sky, your dish can't pick up a signal. There's nothing you can buy or anything you can change. Either the tree is gone, or the dish has to be moved.

Call DirecTV and see if you can schedule for them to maybe come out and put it on a different side of the house where the view is not obstructed.

  3. Move the dish, or get premission to cut some limbs off. you can move it as long as you have some slack on the cables and you keep in in the same direction.

  4. If you tried to move your dish the problem might be that you are not aiming at the satellite correctly; therefore, the tree is not the only thing keeping you from getting a signal.  I'd say you call DirecTV and get THEM to do the installation (after all, it is THEIR responsibility to leave the system working); they should figure out the way to 'get around' the tree...

(Unless, of course, your DirecTV signal is not a legally acquired one... )
