Question:

No sound after formatting hard-drive. Any advice?

OK. I caught a virus and had to format my hard-drive. I lost the sound, which I was expecting and downloaded the driver AC-97. The installation went fine but I still have no sound. I went to intel's website to download the driver for my motherboard (because it's an on-board sound card) and that isn't working either. Has anyone else had this problem?

  1. i think its still a driver problem either that or u have the comp on mute. or speakers ant pluged in

  2. make sure the volume is turned up, the speakers are in the green port and the sound isnt muted

  3. Happens all the time to people who think they can do it themselves instead of paying a professional to clean up their machine.  That's usually because they have p**n on their machines that they're afraid someone will find out about and they'll get in trouble with the wife, husband or the law.  You'll need a trained professional to help you - or buy a new machine.

  4. Yes, go to the manufacture web site for your computer and download the sound driver.

  5. formatting the hard drive should not have affected the motherboard and the sound card. the sound card itself may be malfunctioning, and the problem is likely not related to the re-format of the hard drive. however, if the problem is somehow related to the hard-drive then re-downloading the driver software well not help. i'd get a proffessional out if the problem persists after a system restore or something. Use windows, or whatever your OS is, to see if the sound can be restored by a meer reset of the sound card.

  6. i have the exact same integrated sound card on my AsRock motherboard ... you need to go to your motherboard manufacturers website and find you motherboard model and download the drivers through there

  7. Make sure your Sound Driver isn't disabled; it may have inadvertently disabled itself during shutdown:

Go to Device Manager (Start> RightClick My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and right click on your sound driver and choose enable. If not, try updating the driver, which will effectively restore it to factory settings if there's an update available.

If you don't know the name of you Sound Driver, so to Start> Run> dxdiag. Now go to the Sound Tab and any sound hardware installed is listed.

If that still doesn't work, the driver may have been uninstalled. If so, go to your computer's manufacturer's website and go to the "Support" section. There should be a link for drivers. You will need to know your computer's model, but once you enter that it will give you an option to download any missing drivers. Just find the Sound Driver and install it.

    Hope that helps =]

  9. Not exactly, but try going into the Control Panel Device Manager and right-clicking on the sound device and going to Properties. In the window that comes up go to Driver(s) tab at the top and update driver. Also make sure your speakers/headphones are properly plugged in, the volume control set properly any volume k***s on your headphones/speakers set up high and also enter the Sound Control Panel which sshould be within the Control panel and make sure everything's fine there. If the problem persists call in professional help or even have your PC replaced.
