  1. 1. Have you verified that your drivers are ok?

right click on my computer click on manage and then click on device manager. If you see any yellow exclamation marks on your sound drivers then you have a problem with the drivers.

    2. Open up Windows media or any other media player you may have that you play movies or music on, Verify the sound is not muted on that particular application, Sometimes the sound becomes slave to those applications and it will intefere with the XP sound.

    3. If all esle fails re-install your sound drivers

  2. Make sure your Sound Driver isn't disabled; it may have inadvertently disabled itself during shutdown:

Go to Device Manager (Start> RightClick My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and right click on your sound driver and choose enable. If not, try updating the driver, which will effectively restore it to factory settings if there's an update available.

If you don't know the name of you Sound Driver, so to Start> Run> dxdiag. Now go to the Sound Tab and any sound hardware installed is listed.

If that still doesn't work, the driver may have been uninstalled. If so, go to your computer's manufacturer's website and go to the "Support" section. There should be a link for drivers. You will need to know your computer's model, but once you enter that it will give you an option to download any missing drivers. Just find the Sound Driver and install it.

    Hope that helps =]

  3. Hi try useing the recovery disk make sure you save your stuff

    good look

  4. i have a dell desktop i bought a year ago, so idk how similar our computers are but check these things.

in the toolbar next to the clock, click the white speaker thing and check and make sure thats not muted. there is also an orange speaker icon there for me, and check to see thats not muted either. check any other volume thing in the toolbar. also try pressing the volume control on the actual laptop...idk if that will help. make sure the sound is on on windows media player or wherever youre playing sound. if these dont work then you may have to call dell, which really sucks, i know.

  5. Check for the audio drivers. Get the latest driver from www.support.dell.com. If that is done try doing a system restore. If that is done check your speakers, also connected external headphones and check if that works. If that is aldready done call tech support for more assistance.
