Question:

No sound output on computer?

I have been having a strange problem with my Gateway laptop. I've had it for three years and it has been very reliable. Unfortunately, the sound output has stopped. It is not a problem with the speakers, and I've checked it with headphones. When I go to play an audio file, whether it be in Winamp, WMP, or even YouTube, the audio file pauses and will not play. Youtube videos play for two seconds before the video will pause and not continue. I've never had this problem in the past. Not even regular computer sounds (like minimizing, start-up, shutdown, etc.) will play. The volume is up; nothing is muted--I've checked the usual. Sometimes it works--today I was listening to music, but then the audio file stopped cold, even though it said it was playing.I scanned for a virus and nothing showed up. Can anyone help me?

  1. This happens to me sometimes, you just have to shut whatever program is playing the audio file and re-launch it, yeah it sucks but sorry hope it helps =]

  2. I suggest you rebuild the OS.

    Good luck

  3. Uninstall the auido software programs.

    Then run an OS optimizer.

Reinstall the programs and see if that helps with anything.

  4. Make sure your Sound Driver isn't disabled, it may have inadvertently disabled itself during shutdown:

Go to Device Manager (Start> RightClick My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and right click on your sound driver and choose enable.

If you don't know the name of you Sound Driver, so to Start> Run> dxdiag. Now go to the Sound Tab and any sound hardware installed is listed.

If that still doesn't work, the driver may have been uninstalled. If so, go to your computer's manufacturer's website and go to the "Support" section. There should be a link for drivers. You will need to know your computer's model, but once you enter that it will give you and option to download any missing drivers. Just find the Sound Driver and install it.

    Hope that helps =]
