No sponsor means no seat in Formula One- Pedro de la Rosa
Formula one, is no doubt, all about money. It is, indisputably, one of the most money oriented sports, where the salaries are huge, the cars are more expensive than any other racing series around the world, tracks are most exquisitely made, events are mega and its drivers are treated as super stars. This surely makes one understand that in this sport, the man with ‘lesser bucks’ around stands nowhere, like Pedro de la Rosa.
The driver had firm plans, to re-enter the sport, in 2011 and some of the teams also showed interest to engage him. Yet, he fears that a lack of personal sponsorship might deprive him from a race seat next season. Previously, the driver has served a number of years with McLaren, as their test driver. However, the Spaniard got lucky last year, as he entered into BMW Sauber but could only keep his seat in the team, for 14 races. Although, the thirty-nine-year-old is currently signed with Pirelli, as their tyre tester, yet he is continuously striving to make a comeback in the sport. The Italian tyre manufacturer hired the driver earlier this year, as Sauber released him to conduct test drives for Pirelli. The company is to make its return to the sport, at the start of next season, as the sole tyre supplier. This place t was taken by Bridgestone, till the last race of the 2010 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Earlier this month there were reports that de la Rosa, is to link with the HRT for 2011, but the team owner, Jose Ramon Carabante, dismissed all such speculations. He very vividly declared that with no money, the team will not be able to provide him a seat. As the 2010 season ended; FIA published the expected entry list for next season, showing 10 vacancies with various teams. However, de la Rosa not only insists that the vacancies are actually lesser but also tough, to fill in. While talking about how difficult it is to make a way in the sport, the Spanish driver stated,
“For sure, most of them are already reserved for drivers that come with a sponsor. That's my handicap that I haven't got a sponsor. But I'm not giving up. I’m stubborn and I want to race. If in the end I have to be a reserve or a tester, I will, but first I will try everything (to race)."
