No sweets when descending

took my children on there 1st trip eva to Oz about a month ago the two youngest ones 8 and 4 were really upset as the plane was decending into Brizzy....they were complaining about their head and ears aching.....DO QANTAS NOT give out sweets anymore and why...

You get sweets in NZ on domestic flights.....which are shorter distance...

  1. Next time take gum with you, that would help keep there ears clear from the depressurization.  I am not sure what the sweets would do for you if they give them to the kids.


  2. The idea of giving out sweets is to induce a sucking or chewing motion in the jaw, and so help alleviate the effect of the buzzing as the cabin pressure changes during descent.

    For an airline not to distribute sweets probably has something more to do with avoiding lawsuits than economy.

    As one answerer says, it's possible that a child could be diabetic and not be aware, thus leading to a massive claim if the passenger fell into a diabetic coma.

  4. Is Qantas slipping in standards or just economising? Surely the down turn in the aviation industry would not be a cause for lack of such "essentials".  

  5. because some people may have diabetes and not be aware and they can't have any emergencies on a plane.
