I filed my taxes back in February and still has received nothing. I have called several times abou the status on the refund check. I was told they never received my electronic tax return for 2006. I mailed a copy of the 2006 Tax return three times due to them not recieving it. By this time, in May they finally recieved it. I also received aletter stating it will be a two - three week process. Still nothing. I called and I was told it was still being processed. I called again and was told I had filed a 1040X amendement. I don't recall ever doing it but they said I had. I waited and called again about where I stood. Still I was told...they did receive the 2006 tax return and the monie that I paid back then (which I owed) and all been recieved but still in process. I waited again another week to find out my status...then was told hopefully the money would be released soon. It was routed in late June however...I'm still waiting. I've called and called and nothing is happening

  1. If you mailed it 3 times, what the IRS is calling an amended return is probably a duplicate return. This messes things up and it could take at least 12 weeks from the receipt of the second (or third!) return to get it cleared up. You should have waited at least 10 weeks before sending a copy. You'll eventually get all the money due you, but it may be awhile.

  2. Sounds like time for a call to the taxpayer advocate at 1-877-777-4778.  Their job is to help people resolve IRS issues that aren't getting resolved through normal channels.

  3. IRS is holding your rebate because you fail to file your 2006 return, when you filed your tax return it takes IRS 6-12 weeks from the IRS received date to process late filed return.  Prior tax returns are manual processed, and since your refund was held for 2007 the return for 2006 had to be filed to IRS PO BOX 149336; STOP 5501, Austin, TX 78714-9336, if you didn't mail it to the correct address then Austin had to request the return from the receiving service center which can take up to six weeks to be forwarded.  It if you filed an amended return that just delayed the processing even more.

IRS Refund Department will not release the refund until the 2006 is processed.  You should have all your money by August.  Good luck be patient and file timely.

The Taxpayer Advocate can not help you get the refund released if the return has not been fully processed.  If you call them they take 30-45 days to help you.
