Question:

No/very short nap during daytime?

My daughter usually wakes at 9am and is up until 9pm, during which time she will only nap for around half an hour at most - and sometimes not at all. She is not fussy or overtired when it comes to bedtime, or during the day. But should I be trying to put her to sleep even though she shows no signs of being tired?

  1. You got the short straw. Some kids just don't seem to need the sleep during the day. I'd put her in her crib with a toy or two for about 15 minutes-more if she will tolerate it-just so she gets used to the idea of rest time and spending time alone.

  2. Well, all kids are different. If she's sleeping 12 hours at once, maybe she's getting enough. My firstborn rarely napped, but the other two were great nappers! If she's not fussy, don't worry about it! However, it isn't a bad thing at that age, if Mommy needs a break and wants her little girl to take a nap!

  3. I worry either.

She'll probably want to sleep a little during the day when she is walking and burning off all her energy quickly.

  4. no, if she is not tired, I wouldn't force her. but it is nice when they take a nap to get things done. when my son was that age he took 2 naps a day about 2 hours long.

  5. My daughter was like your from the beginning - no nap or very short naps.

If she isn't fussy, she's fine.

    All the best.

  6. If she's happy, sleeping 12 hours at night (lucky!!!) and is growing ok then don't worry. Not all babies need as long a nap in the day as others and struggling and battling her to have a nap she doesn't want will only make both of you tense!

  7. No, if she was showing signs of fatigue then i would say make a scheduled nap time. but in your case I would let her determine it. a half hour nap may be just what she needs to recharge, and continue through the day.

  8. When I was a baby/toddler I never napped. I went to bed around 10 and got up at 9. I was fine. My parents tried putting me to bed earlier but I jut didn't like it or napping in the afternoon. I wouldn't go to bed until 10, even if they put me in my cot I would just jump up and down til I broke it.

Every kid is different. As long as she isn't tired, then it should be fine. :-)

  9. i would always give a nap, until they are 5 or in grade school. if you dont start now, it may be that she wont take one when she really does get fussy or irritable in the middle of the day

  10. i used to take my 10 month old in her cot for an hour in the morning from 11am....but with your baby waking up at 9am i wudperhaps try 2pm for an hour. leave her in the cot with a few soft toys and a blackout curtainand done get her back up until 3pm... 4pm if shes asleep. all childen neeed a bit of time on their own ... and it wont doher know harm even if shed ont sleep. u need the rest too x

  11. hmm at 10 months she really should still be napping for at least an hour or 2, but i guess you cant force her too!  maybe you could try a little quite calm time to read a story or something just so she gets to have a rest?
