  1. i would say the water pump, not real expensive to replace, you may can order a repair manual for your motor also, would tell you step by step how to do pretty mush anything to your motor.

  2. Your impeller is bad.  It's not hard to replace it.  get a manual and do it.  It will cost you a lot less than taking it to an outbd mech.  Don't run the motor w/o the impeller-You quickly overheat it.

  3. If has been sitting for 3 years , chances are the pump impeller in the lower unit has disintegrated. It`s not very expensive and relatively easy to change if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. Buy a repair manual . It will save you $$$ in the long run

  4. Before you get out your wallet and start spending money you may not need to.  First poke a small wire up into the water "p**s Hole", you may have simply had a bug make a nest in it and it is plugged.

With the water muffs on the engine, water is forced up into the engine even if the water pump is worn out and bad.  The important thing is, was water coming out the exhaust?  If yes, then the engine isn't going to overheat while you test it.

If you clear the "p**s Hole" and it works great, you are home free.  If the engine has set for three years, it is cheap insurance to change out the impeller anyway and you can do it yourself with a manual in about two hours or less.
