Noah Rubin shocks Liam Broady to enter quarters – Boys’ Singles French Open 2012
American contestant, Noah Rubin, upset the third seed, Liam Broady, in straight sets at the Boys’ Singles Roland Garros 2012 on Wednesday. He formulated a 6-2, 6-3 victory against the 18-year-old Brit to cruise into the quarter-finals at this second of the
four Grand Slam events taking place from 22nd May to 10th June in France.
Rubin showed exceptional skills and agility to outsmart the seeded Brit in straight sets in their first outing. After earning the fame in one hour and nine minutes, the American enthusiastically secured a position in the final eight at this clay court event.
The 18-year-old thundered into the Court number 14 and ruled throughout the first set. After Broady held his serve in the opening game, Rubin unleashed his true colours and wiped out the proceeding five games in a row. Rubin held his serve once again and
clicked the opener with a 6-2 win.
The American teenager kept momentum rolling into the following set and earned the coveted break in the opening game. Apart from losing his edge in the very next game, he broke the Brit’s serve again and leaped to a 3-1 lead. He levelled the scores again
in the sixth game but reeled off the last three games in a row, eventually sealed the set by winning six games to three.
All in all, Rubin clobbered a better first serve share of 69 per cent as compared to his rival’s 43 per cent and amazingly availed 20 out of 33 points on it. He also committed fewer double faults and sealed the deal with 65 points.
Next challenge for Rubin is the fifth seed, Filip Peliwo, who tumbled over Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro in straight sets to set up this meeting.
The eighth seeded American, Mitchell Krueger, also earned the limelight later that day. He fended off early resistance to overpower the local contestant, Quentin Halys, in straight sets to advance. Krueger blocked three out of five breakpoints he came across
and cashed in half of the six break chances, eventually manipulating a 7-6(6), 6-4 score line in almost one and a half hour.
