Noemi Zbaren lives up to expectations in Lille - Athletis news
As the qualifying competitions for the 7th edition of the IAAF World Youth Championships went underway in Lille, France, Noemi Zbaren, the 17-year-old world leading 110m Hurdler from Switzerland, lived up to the expectations of her spectators
as she maintained her pre-favourite status in the contest.
For stopping the clock in an impressive 13.13 seconds, she produced a replay of her impeccable performance marked back in Schweinfurt, about three weeks ago.
The results produced by Zbaren explained the talent and potential of the young and dominating athlete well. Aiming to chase and outdo her Swiss guest at any cost, Christelle Vertueux, the local runner who too witnessed some impressive strides, could not
emerge at the competition However, her efforts did not go in vain as she too managed to stop the clock in 13.86 seconds, which was a new personal best for her.
A quick start observed right at the start of the prestigious athletics event is the indication of the fact that Zbaren possesses the ability to pull away from her rivals as the five day championships lingers on. Despite winning the qualification with a considerable
margin, she revealed that it did not came in result of her best effort, as she did not attempt for a season’s best but just to earn the entry into the IAAF World Youth Championships.
She expressed her thoughts by saying that, “I just wanted to test the track and I didn’t think of a season’s best in qualifying.”
Besides Zbaren, another prominent performance in the event was marked by Mohammad Aman, the winner of the Youth Olympics 1000m contest held in Singapore. While appearing at Lille, he earned the title in the 800m competition where he defeated John Apolinario,
his close rival, to emerge in the event.
For finishing-off the desired distance in one minute and 53.17 seconds, the stellar performer from Ethiopia made to finish just ahead of Nader Belhanbel, his close rival from Morocco who finished second for clocking one minute and 53.44 seconds. The third
runner who also managed to qualify for the event was Mihn Kyun from Denmark, who hit the finishing line with a difference of 0.10 seconds.
