Noemie Thomas captures Women’s 100m butterfly gold – 2013 Austin Grand Prix
Noemie Thomas of UBCD captured gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on day one of the 2013 ST TXLA Austin Grand prix at Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, on Friday, January 18.
The 16-year-old Thomas smothered hopes of her opponents in the double lap event as she sprinted her way towards the wall for gold medal. With her unrelenting efforts, she remained comfortably ahead of her opponents and touched the wall for the title.
Thomas remained almost one and a half body lengths ahead of her closes competitor and surfaced on the finishing end for first position by touching the wall with an effort of 58.88 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Audrey Lacroix of PPO, who stayed 1.26 seconds behind and occupied silver medal of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 00.14 seconds.
The second best finisher remained half a body length ahead of her following swimmer, Kathryn McLaughlin of Mission Viejo Nadadores, who finished third in the race by producing an effort of 1 minute and 00.82 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Ally Howe of Palo Alto Stanford, who stayed 0.23 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 01.05 seconds.
Howe was trailed by Danielle Villars of Southern Methodist, who remained 0.26 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 01.31 seconds for fifth place.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Hilary Caldwell of PSW, who was almost three body lengths behind and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 04.01 seconds.
Caldwell was chased by Stephanie Samudro of Golden West Swim and Nina Rangelova of Southern Methodist, who engaged each other in a neck-to-neck race.
Both swimmers tried hard to overpower each other over the finishing end. They stayed 0.29 seconds slower from their former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 04.30 seconds for seventh position.
In addition, Thomas received a huge round of applause from the audience for her commendable efforts and raked medal after the session.
