Noemie Thomas secures Women’s 200m butterfly gold – Swimming news
Noemie Thomas of UBCD secured gold medal of Women’s 200m butterfly on day one of the 2013 Mel Zajac Jr International at UBC Aquatic Centre on Sunday, May 26.
The 17-year-old Thomas showed no mercy to her opponents in the distant butterfly discipline and cruised her way towards the finishing end for gold medal. With her commendable pace, Thomas lived up to the expectations of her supporters and secured the title.
With her exceptional pace, she faced no difficulty in defending her fastest qualification spot of the race and conquered the title. Thomas remained in a comfortable lead over her supporters as she occupied the title with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.82
seconds.
Haley Black of PGB, who remained 4.30 seconds away from her former finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 17.12 seconds, chased the champion.
The second best finisher was traced by Emily Overholt of WVOSC, who was just 0.04 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 17.16 seconds.
Fourth best finisher was chased by Jamie Sterbis of VAN-IE, who was 2.82 seconds apart and settled on the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 19.98 seconds.
Fifth finest spot of the race was obtained by Jacomi Strydom of TAB, who was only 0.81 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 20.79 seconds.
Subsequently, sixth position of the race was secured by Jessie Gibson of SPART, who was only 0.98 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 21.88 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the event was swim was secured by Lindsay Delmar of UCSC, who was unable to overpower her former finisher. She stayed in a lead of almost two seconds from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of
2 minutes and 22.33 seconds.
Lauren Swistak of Simon Fraser Aquatics, who was unable to make any improvement in her qualification time, obtained last spot of the race. Swistak stayed almost full body length away from her preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 23.26 seconds.
In addition, Thomas expressed happiness over her victory in the 200m discipline while the position holders collected medals and accolades at the prize ceremony of the tournament after the race.
