Noemie Thomas wins Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day three – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Noemie Thomas of VAND won gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on third day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Saturday, July 21.
The crowd witnessed mind-blowing efforts of Thomas in the double lap butterfly event, as she showed no mercy to her opponents and sprinted her way towards the wall for the title of the discipline.
With her unrelenting efforts, Thomas was the only swimmer to post a sub one minute effort in the event as she captured gold crown with the timing of 59.12 seconds.
Her title-claiming effort remained one and a half body length faster from her subsequent competitor, MacKenzie Downing of WGB, who proved her audacity for second fastest spot of the event by clocking a wonderful time of 1 minute and 00.41 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was followed by Kendra Chernoff of U of A Swim Club, who stayed 0.34 seconds apart and occupied bronze medal of the swim by posting a time of 1 minute and 00.75 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was chased by Samantha Corea of VAND, who stayed only 0.05 seconds slower from her former finisher and ended her race in a time of 1 minute and 00.80 seconds.
Subsequently, Corea was trailed by Caroline Kuczynski of Pointe-Claire Swim Club, who finished fifth in the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.12 seconds.
Kuczynski remained in a lead of 0.26 seconds over Sherry Patel of MSSAC, who secured sixth fastest spot of the event by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 01.38 seconds.
The 19-year-old Patel was followed by Vanessa Charron of Club de Natation, who stayed almost 0.70 seconds apart and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.05 seconds for seventh position.
Charron was chased by Devon Bibault of KEYANO, who ended her swim in eighth place as she tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 02.50 seconds.
In addition, Thomas expressed contentment over her success in the 100m discipline.
