Question:

Noise and Mp3 Decoder?

My group and I have been working on a project similar to a mp3 player. We're trying to eliminate noise in the music. How would I go about doing that. We're getting copper fill for our pcb. I've read that a passband filter placed on both left and right channels would help. Any advice?

  1. what is copper fill and how can that help?

Noise is very difficult to reduce if it is pure white noies (you will never eliminate it) without also reducing the information in the music.  You can reduce the upper frequency cutoff (low pass filter, not passband filter) but this will remove the high frequency information (overtones) in the music also.

Sophisticated DSP procedures may help, try reading up on that, but no guarantees.

If the noise is not white noise, but has some specific frequency components, then DSP has a better chance of helping.
