Noise from construction workers at night?

theres construction work alongside my house. I dont mind that they make noise in the day, even tho they start at 7am...but its now nearly 11pm and theyre outside drilling (really loud) and have some sort of generator running...it sounds like a truck engine. Not to mention theyre talking pretty loudly lol.

Is there any laws against this? i dont really want to shout out the window to tell a load of burly builders to keep it down :)

  1. Call the council, if you are in the UK, there are local laws about noise, usually after 10pm stuff like that has to stop, if you cant get anyone at this time of night do it in the morning, make a complaint to the police, they probably wont come out, but your complaint will be logged and help your care to get it stopped.

  2. large fan by your head

  3. They have got to have written permission from the Local Council to work between 6 pm and 7am.

  4. Which country are you in? In the UK, they are not supposed to be making a racket after 10pm, unless it is an emergency. Complain to your council and get them send round the noise abatement officer.

  5. I live in the states, we have city mayor, county commissioner, local law inforcement to call.Does your area not have a noise ordinance law? Like shutting down at a certain time? That is really rude anyway. If it was being done near their home, their burly tails would be out there chasing the workers away.....So sorry for you.....Start a petition......Good luck.

p.s. try  throwing water balloons when they are not looking..ha ha

  6. what's the number for 911 ?

  7. You say they are "drilling".  If they are drilling deeply into the ground, in some places that is allowed to continue until the hole is completed (won't fall in when the drill is removed).  Otherwise noise ordinances prevent construction sites from operating past a given hour depending on the local council.

Call the police or constable to ask if the construction site has got permission to work late.

  8. speak to your local councils' planning department, there are usually restrictions on working  hours

  9. You should be able to complain to the council or something for excessive noise.
