i want to throw a party in my backyard for my 17th birthday, but i live in the city, and i obv have neighbours. i wanted to have 2 or 3 bands play live, because my backyard is of a decent size. i don't know my neighbours well enough to know if they would complain, but i was thinking of getting a noise "permit", that lets you make noise after 10pm. does anyone know how much this costs? or knows a moderately priced alternative to a backyard?

  1. Two or 3 bands??  In Ontario you will not only need a "noise permit" as you call it, but in the municipality you live in you may also require a "cabaret" license which is granted by the LCBO. They issue that regardless of the fact if alchol is being served or not. And you said 17, so that means you have 2 more years to wait before you can indulge, (unless you go to MB or QC).

Your town council office is the folks to call regarding permits, and they can be found in the blue Gov't. listings in the phone book.

  2. Noise complaints in Ontario fall under municipal by-laws.  There is no such thing as a 'noise permit' or anything of that nature.  If you are making noise after the stated time (check with the city by-law office) the police will be sent around if any compllaints are received.  You can be darn sure someone will be complaining if you have live bands performing late.  Be a good neighbour and think of others.  Cheers!!

  3. check with the police first cause the noise has to stop by 11pm

  4. check with the local police and city hall  you may need a permit
