Noise pollution overrated?

What a phony type of pollution！ Does anyone else think that noise pollution is overrated as a problem? I mean, exactly what serious effects to noise pollution have??

One effect is children develop "selective perception", meaning they ignore and screen out sound more than normal, including human speech.  In a classroom they hear the teacher only if they're looking right at the teacher, so they have problems learning.  That was proven back in the 1950's when they started building massive public housing projects, which have very high noise levels.

No, it's not overrated...it's annoying as all get out when you're in the comfort of your own home and all the window start to rattle because some idiot decides to drive by with the stereo turned up...which I refer to as the "speakers on wheels".  It's obnoxious, it's annoying and I don't want to hear it!!!  That is noise pollution.  Why should others have to be subjected to noise that is unnecessary??  I hate it when I'm at a red light and my rear view mirror starts to vibrate and the noise is so loud that I feel like I'm having a heart attack!!  It feels like someone's inside me pounding on my chest trying to get out...and that's from someone else's NOISE!!!  Yes, there is such a thing as noise pollution...and I really wish it would be cleaned up!!!!!

Well, I thought it was overrated too until I moved to a big city.  I live in Tokyo where there's noise everywhere, you can't even walk into a shop without people screaming "WELCOME!" in your ear.  Sometimes shops play the same song on a 30-second loop over and over again!  I don't understand how the people working there can stand it.  Plus, I get woken up at night whenever the police are chasing someone because on top of the noisy sirens they'll go "PLEASE PULL OVER" on a loudspeaker.  Even the garbage truck plays a song at 6 AM!  Playing the same music over and over again is a kind of tourture they use on prisoners, so it must create some serious effect: driving you crazy.
