Nolan Reimold’s four RBIs help Baltimore Orioles defeat Kansas City Royals, 6-5 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles’ out-fielder, Nolan Reimold had a remarkable day with the bat as he went 4-for-4 and hit four RBIs in the Orioles’ 6-5 victory against the Kansas City Royals at Oriole Park, Baltimore on May 26.
Reimold expressed his excitement as, “It feels real good. You never know really what to expect for the game. I was happy to have a good game, very happy that we got the win. We've got a little win streak going.”
The first inning passed without score. However, during the second inning, both teams started well as the Royals contributed four runs and the Orioles were able to add only one run on the score-board. Mike Aviles hit a grounder to short-stop and Jeff Francoeur
scored one run. The last three runs were taken by Aviles, Brayan Pena and Chris Getz. They all singled to centre-field spot.
On the other side, Reimold hit a one-run homer (398 feet) towards left-field and cut-off his team’s deficit 4-1 at the end of second inning. The Orioles’ batters accelerated in the very next inning as they posted four runs. Robert Andino added one run when
Mark Reynolds drove a shot off to centre-field. Reimold struck his second homer (413 feet) of the game to the left-field while Adam Jones and Reynolds, both scored two runs collectively.
The Orioles went ahead 5-4 after the third inning. The game was tied 5-all in the fourth inning when Alex Gordon doubled to deep right-field and Getz posted a single run. The score-card was unmoved and the game remained level until the 11th inning.
At last, Vladimir Guerrero hit a single-run shot to centre-field and Andino scored a tie-breaking run to give the Orioles a convincing 6-5 lead in the 12th inning.
Guerrero was unable to score a run and went 1-for-6. However, the Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter was aware of his abilities. Speaking to reporters, Showalter said, “You play (Guerrero) to pull in the hole because he hits so many balls in that hole, but
also because he's so strong, he topspins a lot of balls up the middle of the diamond.”
The Orioles’ starter, Jeremy Guthrie was economical as he threw seven innings with an ERA of 3.63 and gave away five runs on nine hits including four earned runs. He did not permit a walk on his 106 pitches.
