Nolan Ryan embraces the magic as the Rangers oust the Yankees
The New York Yankees were already two games down from qualifying for the World Series title bid. They were on the losing run of the campaign and their series opponents in the American League Championship (ALCS) were leading the wins tally by 3 games to 2.
The win was important for the Yanks who made their way to the playoffs through a wild card berth. Their 28th bid was going to get them near to the headline, they always wanted to secure.
Unfortunately, their opponents, the Texas Rangers had a better story to motivate their players with. The side that Nolan Ryan was once part of for 5 years, had never made it to the ALCS and this was history in the making for Ron Washington and his superiors,
as the Texans were headlining every win in the campaign. The club President, Nolan Ryan, was part of the accomplishment and the man who watched on in the stands as his side beat the reigning world champions was infused with energy again.
Ryan had played baseball for 27 years and the only time he featured in the World Series was back in 1969, when he was part of the Amazin’ Mets. He came to the Rangers in 1989, but returned as club President in 2008. He led the thought process of change in
the ball club and during spring, predicted a major progression into the playoffs. For a man who nearly lost the club in an auction bidding war during the summer, the accomplishment is a major step towards realizing a better future.
On the occasion, Nolan shared a few words, expressing the view and the feelings of the supporters, “Our fans have waited a long time, this organization has waited a long time. I think it’s a credit to our organization, Jon Daniels (General Manager) and the
staff he put together, Ron Washington and his staff. I’m proud and honoured to be here tonight.”
Looking into the future, the Hall of Fame pitcher praised the team spirit with, “We all started having a certain feeling at some point in time. They just kept fighting back and fighting back, and we started believing in them. They were determined to get
it done.”
