Nolan Ryan optimistic about Cliff Lee’s return
There has been much talk about the movement persisting in the Major Leagues, this season and one particular area of reference goes to the free agency. There are 30 strong teams looking to add power to their lineup, this year and though, there are concerns
over the financial woes of the economy, some ball clubs are considering the expenditures as long term investments. There have been big movements along the lines of player acquisitions but some of the big ball stars will not end up anywhere, soon.
Cliff Lee is one hot player in the free agency, at the moment and his inclusion in any roster can lead to glory in the playoffs. The Texas Rangers know that as a fact. They have gained their career first appearance in the World Series, alongside Lee and
it seems their pursuit of the player will not come to a conclusion, anytime soon.
With the winter meetings steaming the free market like a cooking pot, the stakes to sign a strong end game deliverer are high. For clubs, spending more isn’t a concern, as long as they are able to boost their chances in the regular season, scheduled to start
in April. However while there are moves being made to acquire the esteemed pitcher, the Rangers are valuing their chances well before the off season closes down.
The President of the club, Nolan Ryan is looking at Lee’s return to the club with an optimistic perspective. The hall of famer thinks Lee will return even though there are strong considerations for the ball player from the Washington Nationals and the New
York Yankees. While the Yanks are expected to dish out more money, the Nats will stretch their offer with more years.
Nolan talked about the contract years and specifically said, "I have a comfort level on contracts and the length of them. It depends on the individual, but the shorter the contract, the higher my comfort level. I really view it - no matter if it's a pitcher
or a position player - I'm not really into lengthening contracts out. It's just bad business."
Even though Ryan is adamant about the contract length, his team’s chances are unknown. Lee’s agent Darek Braunecker, recently said, "It's my responsibility to Cliff and his wife, Kristen, to extract the best possible contract. Does that mean the most money,
the longest term or the best place where they can be happy and can win? There is no one criteria they've presented to me. I'm just doing my job to put them in the best possible situation."
