The final of the Belgian national cup saw Noliko MAASEIK and Euphony ASSE-LENNIK compete with each other on February 12.
The title match of the tournament was being staged in the Belgian city of Antwerp. The venue of the competition was the Lotto Arena that housed a total of 5,500 spectators who had come to watch their favourite team compete in the final.
After bagging themselves three straight sets, the Noliko squad had earned itself the champion’s title. The final set scores stood to be the following, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-19.
The first set of the match saw both the teams come out strong with neither side letting the other go too far ahead. However, as the frame progressed, Noliko was seen to emerge with a 16-13 lead over their opponents. The Euphony squad was in no mood to let
go of the chase so soon and they stepped up their game to make the score reach a tie at 20-20. After some tough final moments, the Noliko was able to bag itself the first set at 25-22.
The opening set win helped the Noliko to start the second set with confidence and grabbed themselves an early lead at the coming of the first technical time out at 8-7. Once they had the lead, Noliko was able to put up a good show of volleyball skills that
got them ahead at 19-12. After that point, it was only a matter of time before Noliko earned another win with Euphony trailing behind at 18-25.
The third set of the game followed the same pattern as the second one with Noliko taking the lead at the start and extending their advantage. Euphony only put in half-hearted efforts that did not do much to stop the Noliko squad from bagging the third set
at 25-19.
The recent win has enabled the Noliko squad to earn themselves the credit of securing the national champions title for the fourteenth time in their history. Not only that, the Noliko squad has made an appearance into the final of the tournament for a total
of 22 times altogether.
