Question:

Non Definition TV on High Definition TV?

I just picked up a Samsung 40" 1080p TV. Love it.

However, I have a non HD Tivo. I do want to get the HD Tivo, but need to save up.

In the meantime, can I still connect the regular Tivo? I don't understand how I set it up. Right now - my cable goes to my cabels high def box then to my cable via HDMI cable.

I know I wouldn't be able to record in HD, but would I lose quality watching LIVE Tv if I hooked the non HD Tivo up?

Thanks

  1. if your tivo is connected between the cable box and the tv and it doesnt have HD hookups then the best youll be able to get is standard definition for now.

  2. there should be more than one output on your cable box, put the HDMI from the cable box to your TV and then some RCA cables from your cable box to your TiVo

  3. I used to have this setup as well before I got an HD DVR.  Connect the cable box to your TV with the HDMI cable.  Connect the cable box to the TIVO using another connection such as composite or coax cable.  Then connect you Tivo to another input on your TV.  You will have to switch to the correct input on the TV to watch something you have TIVO'd, but with this setup, you can still use the TIVO and get the benefits of watching HD channels through the HDMI (when you're not on the TIVO input).
