Question:

Non-Medicinal Remedies for Pregnancy Backahce?

So... I am 19 weeks pregnant, and just starting to get those annoying back aches. Does anyone have some good suggestions on cures? I took tylenol once when the spasm was too much to handle, but I'd like to keep that the only time during pregnancy.

Thank you!

...my doctor said she could prescribe me a muscle relaxer, but that seems worse than tylenol!

  1. IDK... a back massage??

  2. Try a pregnancy support belt.  It might take some pressure off your pace.

Hope you find something... it does get worse!

    Here is a nice one...

  3. yoga, also what I do is i get on my hands an knees and so a cat pose and stretch my back. with the hot weather I also use ice pack on my back it keeps me cool and numbs the pain. try to stay of the meds as much as pos if its real baby like mine has before as the doc if you can see a sports med doc for some  help.

  4. You could try heating pads, massage, resting, more comfortable shoes (or shoe inserts), swimming, stretching, walking, more Tylenol, whatever the dr is prescribing (if he says it's ok, it's ok. Medicine in pregnancy does not automatically equal bad). Last but not least, a pregnancy support belt may help. My friend had to use one at 5+ months.

  5. Maybe you could try getting on all fours and rocking your hips a bit. It might move the baby off a nerve that could be causing the pain. Its silly but it helped me out a lot when I finally did it. I hate taking medicine too and refuse to take any while I'm pregnant,

  6. I used to find not sitting with cushions behind my back used to help as your back would be straight not arched. You could also try using a hot or cold pack on your lower back to ease some of the discomfort or having a warm bath or shower. Also some gentle exercising could do the trick something relaxing like swimming or yoga.

  7. Yes, the best thing is massage. Get your husband to give you a massage daily! If the doc thinks it's serious enough, move on to a physiotherapist.

Warm (not hot) showers and baths.

Sleep in the fetal position, if you can with a pillow between your knees.

Your doctor should be able to give you some gentle exercises to do - it depends upon what exactly the problem is.

I had serious sciatic pain, so I had to deal with that. Ended up getting accupressure from an orthopedic specialist worked the best.

I sure wouldn't take a muscle relaxer, though....

  8. Backaches can be particularly annoying. They can be caused by poor posture, inappropriate lifting techniques, change in the center of gravity due to your expanding abdomen, lack of exercise, or the weight of the baby and the stretching ligaments.

    Here are my suggesstions:

    Utilize good posture

    Use proper lifting techniques

    Pelvic rocking

    Massage

Sleep with pillows supporting your legs and back

Wear flat heeled shoes that offer good support

    Heat (bath, shower, pad, sock)

    Swimming

Don't move in a jerky fashion

    Stretch daily

    Certain herbal Liniments may help

Chiropractic help may be of use as well

Aslo be aware that just because you have back pain in pregnancy, that does not mean that you will have back labor.
