This App on my IPhone called weather bug is telling me there is a Non Precipitation Advisory. I looked online and said I actually am in 4 different active alerts. This is the Non Precipitation Advisory also, Severe Thunder and Lightning Advisory, Ozone Advisory and Heat Advisory. I live in Washington (STATE) not DC the north west one. The air here right now can kill a person that is very sensitive. The heat is suppose to high at 107ºF. Thunder and Lightning and Saturday and sunday. What does all of this mean? And am I safe?

  1. A NPA (advisory) or NPW (warning) are two products that are used for various products not involving storms. This can include heat or wind chills, pollution, fog with limited visibility (usually less than 1/4 mile), non convective winds (pressure gradient wind) and a few others. Most of the pollution products have been changed to the AQA (Air Quality Advisory) product this year but could still be under the NPA in some locations. Each National Weather Service office has a list of criteria that either follows national/regional guidelines or in some cases local criteria.

I would suggest you contact the local NWS office to see what they issue in their NPA products.

  2. A "Non Precipitation Advisory" is an advisory about possibly severe weather that does not involve hydrometeors (precipitation, rain, snow, hail, etc), I suppose.
