Years back, the norm was to use non-detergent in lawnmowers or so it was recommended. But non-detergent is not as popular today...does it really matter in today's engines?

  1. i always use detergent oil a lawn mower is a rough service engine that is air cooled and not built to the tolerances of a car engine so it needs all the help it can get cause of the environment it works in be sure to check it regularly and change it when it starts looking darker.

  2. Detergent oil is preferred for practically every engine in use today unless you have been using non-detergent for a long period of time in which case, keep on using it.

  3. Non detergent oil is used on mowers because they simply do not have an oil filter to trap the dirt that detergent oil breaks down.I have changed every piece of equipment over to synthetic oil for more protection.
