  1. Remember you are always diabetic.  It's a matter of whether you have the symptoms.  Right now, keep doing what you are doing, it's working!

You should consider telling us all what you are doing to get your numbers where they are.  BTW the normal range for A1c is 4 - 6.2 and 70-110 (fasting) blood sugar.

  2. Machelle    !

An A1C test, also known as a glycated hemoglobin test, isn't used for diagnosing prediabetes or diabetes. Instead, it gauges how well you're managing your diabetes.

The normal range for people without diabetes is 4 percent to 6 percent. An A1C level lower than 7 percent is a common target for people with diabetes —

  3. A1c is the first test to use for diagnosing diabetes. It reads an "average" of the blood sugars over a 90 day period.  It is quick, cheap, and easy.  It should be the first test used for a possible diabetes diagnosis.

The "fasting" tests are just "snapshots" of the blood sugar readings.  In even a normal person, blood sugar levels will go up and down depending on what they eat, how much they exercise, and even the time of day.  The "finger stick" reading (what you called a "fasting  tes") is NOT a diagnostic method.

    HOWEVER . . . .

Both your "fasting tests" AND the A1C test are absolutely normal!  The A1C test shows that your AVERAGE blood sugar has been about '95' for the past 90 days.  Just Perfect!

If you still have concerns (Does diabetes run in your family?  Are you overweight?)  Have the doctor do the A1C test every 6 months.  The "finger stick" fasting tests are not necessary for you.

[There is a third test called Glucose Tolerance Test.  This is the definitive test for diabetes.  It measures how well your body handles sugar over a 2-to-4 hour period.  But based on your A1C tests, you don't even need to consider this test.]

  4. You are not a diabetic.

    5.4 is normal.
