If I have to listen to Wheels on the Bus one more time I might die =P Can anyone think up some fun/popular adult songs my 14 mo old might also enjoy? Example: I used to love that "Lime in the Coconut" song when I was little.

  1. oldies music is always good

  2. Think of the songs that you loved when you were a kid and make your kid a CD with those songs.  I just did that for my daughter and we both love it!

    Our choices were

Queen of Hearts - Juice Newton

Sixteen Tons - Tennessee Ernie Ford

Little White Duck - Burl Ives

Puff the Magic Dragon - Peter, Paul and Mary

Elvira - The Oak Ridge Boys

    Mr. Bojangles

and others I can't think of right now

  3. Hmmm...

    The Monkees - Theme song

Road to amarillo - Peter Kay

Heatwave - Martha and the vandals

    Sherry - Four Seasons

I used to love jamming to oldies when i was a kid lol...

  4. rage against the machine

    one day as a lion

    audioslave

your kids are never to young to listen to their songs

  5. The curious george soundtrack is fun.  It is by Jack Johnson (love him!) and has his usual beat with fun songs like banana pancakes.  Anyway its kid friendly and something you might actually pic if Jack is your thing.

  6. Yes, there are many songs on this site. Hope I helped!!!

  7. Try "Walking On Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves -- or the CD "Sugar Beats," which contains a variety of oldies songs performed especially for kids.

  8. buy the Rockabye Baby cds

they're lullaby versions of normal songs. There's a coldplay one, led zeppelin, bob marley, no doubt, etc...

  9. I would say go get some Barney Dvds, Its very educational and has really kiddie songs. My daughter, (she's 13 months) watches it everyday, not the same ones.. she has a whole collection of Barney Dvds. She enjoys watching barney,  its educational and fun to watch..Hope this helps! Good luck!

Forgot to mention Ebay has great cheap prices for the DVDS. =]

  10. my 1 year old loves the song Hey There Delilah. idk what it is about that song. PLAIN WHITE T's--HEY THERE DELILAH

  11. Sponge Bob Square Pants. believe me, kids'll luv it.

  12. Three Little Birds - Bob Marley

I have that in my car and sing it to my son all the time!

  13. That's too funny!  My son has a playlist of his favorite songs on my iPod, and Harry Nilsson's "Coconut" is one of them.

We never listened to kid's music with my son, except when he was very little, and that was only at home.  In the car, the stereo is the driver's domain, so as a result, my son has been exposed to all different kinds of music.  His playlist has one or two "kid's songs" but nothing preschoolish--just a few songs from the soundtracks for Cars and Toy Story.  Everything else is an assortment of random songs from bands like Led Zeppelin, White Stripes, The Cure, John Coltrane, The Beta Band, Pink Floyd ("Shine on You Crazy Diamond" is his favorite song), Mazzy Star, Phish, Tangerine Dream, Louis Armstrong, Guster, Hoodoo Gurus, and more.  If my husband or I are listening to something that he likes, he'll say "We should put that on my playlist," and we add it when we get home.

So try listening to the kind of music you like, and expose her to something other than preschool songs and Kidz Bop.  She'll thank you for it later, and you will maintain your sanity.  Just make sure you keep the language of the lyrics in mind.

  14. If you like to sing to your daughter, you can sing In My Daughters Eyes by Martina McBride. Its not really something you can dance and play around to but, I am sure it will put a smile on her face.

  15. Shake It, By Metro Station.

my 2 yr old cousin LOVES it. (The chorus, she likes to... shake it. ahha.) Try it out.

  16. I don't really have any suggestions, but my daughter used to LOVE "Baby Got Back" !!! SOOOOO funny seeing her dance to that song!

  17. ziggy stardust- david bowie......

  18. How about peter paul and mary? I used to love that when I was a kid and my dad would sing it with me. Some of the songs are pretty catchy. Or Raffi.

  19. My 18 month old son and I both enjoy pretty much all of Crowded House's catalogue (Aussie band from 90s).

He also loves any old time rock'n'roll (Bill Haley, Buddy Holly), LOVES La Bamba (Richie Valens), as well as the theme from Scrapheap Challenge (UK TV show).

There's also some kids music that's not too harsh on the ears... The Wiggles are awesome, very catchy songs that you will find yourself singing as you go through the day.

Basically, anything upbeat gets him jiggling, so I can usually just put the radio on a top 40 station and keep him dancing for hours :)

  20. Peter Paul and Mary, Puff the Magic Dragon

    Burl Eves

    Disney classics

  21. I understand about that!!  But there are some kiddie type songs that really aren't so bad.

Have you checked out the kid CD's by "They might be giants"??  I loved the band when I was younger, now they have a collection of upbeat children songs, that don't aggravate parents!!

I find myself singing (by myself I might add!) to the song "Seven Days of the Week (I Never Go To Work) "

  22. The Beatles have a lot of good songs to choose from including Yellow Submarine which my daughter loves! Octopus' Garden is another. Listening to The Beatles will keep you busy -- so much of their catalogue is 'happy music.'

  23. You'll be in my heart by Phil Collins. If you listen to the WORDS.... its the best song to sing with your baby.

  24. I would say anything oldies!  The songs are usually upbeat and easy to learn!

  25. It's a good idea to expose your daughter to a lot of different types of music to be honest, not just kid types.  There are plenty of songs from every genre that can be put onto a "kid CD".  I used to make these types of "grab-bag" CDs when I babysat a lot.  I'd try to pick songs that both of us liked, songs that the kids only liked, and songs that only the adults liked (but needed that little bit of a break.)

    Here's some ideas though.

DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (Parents Just Don't Understand and others have a really hoppy beat that kids just love.)

    ABBA

    Daddy a Go Go CDs

They Might Be Giants (besides the ABC and 123 CDs, their songs are always big hits.)

    QUEEN

The odd movie theme (one of the kids I babysat just LOVED the ewok celebration song from the original Star Wars.  I can still sing Yub yub...)

    Beach Boys

    Barenaked Ladies

And don't forget, just about anything that you want to listen and sing to that your kids might enjoy too.  In other words, think back to your teenage years.  Remember that song that your mom didn't cringe at?  Try that one.

Edit:  The "Never go to work" song never leaves your head!

  26. My son is 2 and he loves the song "pocketful of sunshine!" anytime we're in the car he tells me "mama, sunshine!!!" i guess it's the beat & great lyrics! :) enjoy!

  27. Lil Wayne - Gettin Some Head
