  1. Stop now.  Yes it does permeate.  I'm an ex-smoker.  When you smoke you can't smell it, when you don't, you can smell it on everyone who smokes, in their cars and in their house.

When I'm around someone who has only 1 cigarette, my clothes and hair smell of smoke and it gets in my nose and I can't get rid of it until I shower.

Febreze helps.  Open your windows and let it air out.  And again, stop smoking in the house immediately.

  2. If you want to get the smell out, you need to stop smoking in it NOW!  You will need to wash the walls, shampoo the carpets and clean pretty much everything, because the smell does tend to cling to everything.....ever notice that your clothes smell like smoke even when you aren't smoking?!?!   Also, there are air purifiers that you can buy, it's like a fan but it sucks in the dirty air.  Hope you get it smelling fresh!

  3. Paint and clean the carpet......................

    Good luck!

  4. It is said it can take days to air a house, but then if you close up the house for several hours, a non smoker will pick it straight away.

All you can do is to try to over power it with other smells, unless you clean it from top to bottom.

Burn some cedar or other fragrant wood in the fire, and get some incest sticks.

  5. yes

  6. You will never be able to rid the house completely of Cigarette Smoke. There will be residue will be on every surface of your home. Your only home is to have A Professional Steam Cleaning crew come in and Steam Clean your entire home.

The only way to prevent Smokey build up in your home is to ban smoking in your home.

  7. Carpet steamers, upholstery laundry washing the drapes,,, any fabric surfaces need to be washed one way or another. Then you can go at the house with dreaded Febreeze.

If those methods still leave too much tobacco smoke, you can mask it with a bit of lavender.

The big problem for timing is how long things take to thoroughly dry after washing.

Next, you do not want to set of mold growth, so look for mold suppression recipes.

  8. Open the windows and door to let the house air out. Use Oust in the air of every room. Use Febreeze on the curtains and drapes and all fabric furniture. I forget the name of it but there is a powder you spread on your carpet that eliminates pet odors as well. Follow the directions on all products and you should be cool.

Selling or in-laws coming for a visit?

  9. Well, I'm NOW a non-smoker. Do I count?

I've heard smokers candles work wonders. I used to use Yankee Candles. Febreeze is great stuff. Open windows, for sure. Vacuum. Wash bedding.

  10. Change your mind first & then you will find everything on right place & right way.

  11. I'd start NOW. You might want clean the walls & shampoo the carpets. You can also try Febreeze to help eliminate odors from any fabrics around the house (curtains, for example). Open up your windows & turn on any fans you may have to help remove the odor. You could also try an air filter, like an Ionic Breeze, as well.

  12. • Well obviously, the first thing to do is to make sure no one else smokes in the house!

    • Get the odors out of any carpets you have! This is very important in getting out cigarette smoke, and the best method  is to use a steam cleaner. Rug Doctors are awesome and easy to use, plus you can rent them at most grocery stores. If you can't get one for whatever reason, get some carpet deodorizing powder and use it everywhere and then vacuum it off.

    • Wipe down the walls! A lot of the smell sticks to the walls. Get out a bucket and mix 5-6 cups of white vineager with a gallon of warm water and wipe them all down with a sponge or rag.

    • Wash all of the curtains, drapes, bedding, and other fabrics that are out in the open.

    • Finally, get a few nice smelling candles and burn them.
