Non-soy vegans?

hello everyone!... i need help from fellow vegans, especially non-soy vegans. unfortunately my stomach always gets upset when i eat soy products, so i suspect i have an allergy, but i'm not sure.either way i would like to avoid all if not most soy.

Can someone help me figure out where to get all my protein? like what i should eat each meal to insure i get enough..I've heard you need in the range of 45-50 grams a day...any verification of this?

i know i can eat nuts, grains like rice and quinoa, haven't tried seitan (wheat gluten)...what does it taste like?

if anyone can recommend high protein non soy products that would be fabulous, or any if you have any advice for a non-soy vegan that would be appreciated greatly

as a side note...what did you find was the best way to get B12? i'm pretty sure i should just take a supplement, i know of nutritional yeast, but i'm not sure i want to eat it everyday..

thank you! (:

  1. This is like asking, "how can I be a non beef eating meat eater." Soy is not the only place vegetarians can get protein. Try: nuts, seeds, beans, peas, whole grains.

Nutritional yeast is a good place to get B12. Many cereals are fortified with it. If you drink draft bear also has B12. You don't need to get B12 everyday, your body stores it.

  2. Try the various types of legumes and recipes.  Lentils and kidney beans make very good Indian dishes.  A simple recipe that I like is salsa covered black beans and brown rice.   If you don't have a lot of time to cook look for Tasty

Bites or some meals by Amy's that don't contain soy but do contain some type of legume.  There's also a tempeh that is made from grains only that will aid you in getting protein.

I'm not totally soy intolerant but I don't eat very much of it.

It may be that you can consume certain types of soy in small amounts. Have you tried that?  For example, I can't eat tofu and then drink a soy latte later in the day.  I can't eat tofu dogs at all.  They put my stomach in knots for some reason. I can't eat a bar of dark chocolate with soy lecithin, drink a soy latte, and then eat cereal made with soy.  Maybe it's the types that you've had or maybe it's the amount.  That's my personal experience.

  3. There is this hemp bread (without thc of course) that has 14 grams of protein per 2 pieces..so with peanut butter, so just that would be like 20 grams of protein!

  4. How about other whole grains and beans and the obvious veggies?  You can all the protein you need from those things.
