Question:

Non standard kitchen wall cabinet hanging?

My new kitchen design calls for a 15" deep cabinet. The manufacturer doesn't have the width we need in 15" depth so we have been told to use a 12" deep cabinet and pull it forward 3". Sounds simple enough, but we don't have any experience with this application. Anybody have any useful advice or instructions?

  1. You can attach 2 layers of 2x4 as they are 1.5" thick each.  Just s***w them onto the wall where the studs are.

  2. You are going to have to back the cabinets up with 2by4's and perhaps another thin peice of wood Good Luck

  3. Your wall cabinets will need 2 2x4's as stated which are 3". Attach two 2x4's into the studs at your kitchens location of the top of your wall cabinet and the bottom of your wall cabinet. You will have attached 4 - 2 x 4s plus vertical 2x4's at the edge of your wall cabinet if one end is exposed where people can see it.

If one end of your cabinet end panels is seen - you will need a filler strip or a large piece of  decorative trim molding to cover the 2 x 4's where your cabinet meets into your kitchen's wall. You may wish to add vertical 2 x4's at this location for a solid backer to fasten your filler or cabinet molding to..

  4. If you are asking the internet for advice after coming from the cabinet store you need to shop cabinet stores some more. The post above has a good point with the 2x4's. I still feel though that the cabinet store should have almost overloaded you with advice on this one. Most all cabinet stores have an instore installer that you can talk to and get comfortable with your install. In fact, if they did not suggest this, I for sure would shop another cabinet store for advice.
