Nonbelievers: Do you celebrate a secular christmas or avoid the holiday?

We did but recently in the past few years we have stopped. I'm just not into xmas anymore. It just slowly stopped being interesting to me. I don't even do the whole tree thing.

I'd like to hear what other people have decided to do about it, do you continue to celebrate or avoid the whole thing?

  1. I've never done the tree thing, it's tacky. I do enjoy getting together with friends, eating well, playing a few rounds on the Wii, and exchanging presents (for fun, not profit).

  2. Funny thing, my family (who are Christians) wanted to skip the tree and the presents last year until I pitched a hissy fit to have it!

  3. The last POPE admitted it wasn't the correct day Jesus was born. Pointing out several good reasons not to. But few paid attention to it, even in Italy.

If it were true, the politians fixed that with the worlds economy.

  4. JWs don't do Christmas, and last Christmas I had a Soil Science exam.

    Got an A.

    Gift from Santa??

  5. Yeah we celebrate christmas but not with the whole religious thing its just a celebration, everyone i know celebrates it and half of them are atheist/agnostic (i dont know very many people that arent atheist, agnostic or christian), it'd just be weird not to celebrate it. The true meaning of christmas was lost ages ago except to really devout christians, but for my family its just a time for the family to all come together (the only time in the year that happens), exchange gifts and spend time together. I love Christmas which I know seems hypocritical but I love the occasion not what its originally about.

  6. "Christmas" was originally a Pagan festival. The tree, the misteltoe the yule log, all pagan symbols.

  7. I love Christmas! I don't think of it as a Christian thing, to me it's just a time for family and friends to get together, and I love exchanging gifts. I've never really thought of it very much as a religious thing, even when I was little, and used to believe in God. Even though I'm an Atheist, I'd never give up Christmas. It's so much fun!

  8. I don't need holidays period and I am a firm believer in GOD and in Jesus Christ.

How wonderful it is to both receive gifts simply with out expectations of them and to Give them with complete surprise to those we love.

Real love should have no expectations of gifts as gifts are of giving.

As to all holidays observing the actions as I am out during those times,  I have seen an increasing number of angry people who almost never say a kind word to one another.

  9. I am Jewish. I do no celebrate Xmas but I do not object if people say "Merry Xmas" to me in the store. I either answer "Happy Holidays" or "You the same".

  10. I celebrate with my family.

I figure the Pagans don't mind...

  11. Celebrate the Winter Solstice.

  12. i'm hindu. i just like getting the presents :)

by the way, my family rarely even celebrates our own holidays, i.e. divali, holi, etc. etc.

  13. I happen to celebrate Yule and I also recognize the Winter Solstice. Which is what the original "Christmas" was for the pagans before Christians took it over.

  14. We celebrate it.  We have children.  I have a handicapped child who will probably believe in Santa forever,

It's fun, I enjoy it and it is a blast to watch the kids.

  15. Yes.  If you aren't into it, don't.  Personally I love Christmas.

  16. We have tree and lights, and lights outside but most others do. It lightens up the dark nights, that's why my parents decorate. We have plenty of food and presents and spend the holiday together but no religion in it. No church, no religious programmes or anything like that.

  17. So then, Xmas (Lying) does start in September (Fall).

When I became a man, I put away childish things:

    - Laws (Lies)

    - Xmas Lies, Santa Clause

    - Easter Bunny (Good + Evil)

    - Tooth Fairy (loss = reward)

    - Holy Ghost (Shadowy Boogie Man)

    - Fundamentalism, Literalism, Legalism

    Know-ing replaces Believe-ing

    K-now contains the word now.

Do it now, unless off course you'd rather be

not suffered to continue by reason of death

  18. Let's face it, except for a few diehards, Christmas no longer celebrates the birth of Jesus.  It has reverted to the festive pagan winter festival.

    OI< SATURNALIA!!

  19. We celebrate; religion doesn't come into it.

  20. I'm a believer and i do not celebrate christmas it has nothing to do with the lord. dec. 25th is the pagan holiday Solus invictus (the mighty sun god) also dec. 25th starts the witches sabbath of yule and ends jan 1

you should look up the origin of christmas on google, you'll find out you have been worshiping the wrong christ, sorry to let you know this, jesus was born in the fall on the first day of the feast of tabernacles, he was

2nd cousin to john the baptist and was born exactly 6 mo.after him

if you have time to research this you will find out the truth, i bet you think  theres  3 days and 3 nights from friday afternoon till sunday

morning too, you better look up the origin of easter too!

when it comes to false religions im a non believer  but when it comes to the real thing well that's a different story ,do you believe whatever your told or do you check it out?

  21. I celebrate a secular Christmas. I like decorating the tree, and I like exchanging gifts.

  22. If you are not Christian you shouldnt be celebrating Christmas

  23. i dont do the tree either... not because im an atheist,  just because im lazy, xmas is a cultural-familiar thing of course i celebrate it

  24. Christmas isn't a particularly Christian holiday anyway, it's commercial to the brink. I love Christmas, buying people presents, sitting around with my family watching The Great Escape and drinking champagne and Stella - incredible.

    x

  25. I celebrate Christmas and don't give a rats *** if people wish me a merry Christmas; it's a fun holiday and I enjoy my presents, turkey, apple pie, and Christmas music.

Just because the whole Christianity thing is silly doesn't mean I can't enjoy the holiday.
