Question:

None aggressive but lively shoaling fish?

I am looking for a small group of shoaling fish for my 65 litre tank. In the tank I already have honey gouramis & guppies.

I have had no luck so far with silvertip tetras (who nipped the fins of the other fish and attacked each other) and neon tetras (who hid in the corner ALL the time). Any recommendations?

I also have a smaller tank with one betta and 3 Schubert barbs. They seem to be getting on fine together so far.

  1. Cardinal Tetras (at least 12)

  2. Neon, Emperor, Cardinal, Jellybean, Phantom, X-ray tetras, Golden Barbs, glass catfish are all good, safe shoalers.

  3. ..red phantom tetras grow to 1.5 inches

    ...diamond tetras to 2.5 inches

...head-n-tail light tetras to  1.5 inches

    .....Serpae tetras 2.2 inches

...small gouramis grow to ~3 inches

....rasboras too, grow up to 2.0 to 2.5 inches

....so 5 of any 3 of these and a few extra live plants to absorb some of the ammonia and allow for space that they can hide and rest in

..plant tall plants in corners and short low growing grass in middle..the shoals will flow through the space so beautifully

....the serpaes, gold gouramis and red phantoms are my personal fav's

  4. neon tetra or daimond tetra they swim around alot get them in schools of 3-6 they are happy whhen they are in big schools

  5. tank not big enough return your gouramis but keep the guppies. make sure u have 3 male and 3 female guppies and trade the gouramis for 6 neon tetras

  6. Most shoaling fish are indeed fin nippers and having a gourami and guppies aren't going to help either. Neon's (not cardinals) could work as they tend to not fin nip. Zebra danios could work, but only if you have a quite large shoal as they'd work out aggression between themselves. E-mail me for anymore help as theres 100's of possibilities on:

  7. Neon tetras, definitely don't get zebra danios as i had them with my guppies and they eat there fins mistaking them for flakes. Zebra danios are great fish but don't go with guppies, i have 3 and they are great now i don't have the guppies.
