Nonios, another fast developing Jerry Hollendorfer 3-year-old colt
Green Smith owned 3-year-old colt, Nonios, gives Jerry Hollendorfer a range of options with the likes of Rousing Sermon, Russian Greek, and Longview Drive, but Nonios on the other hand has shown so much in his 2 career starts, that his performances are crying
out loud for recognition, but his trainer hasn’t nominated him for the Triple Crown, but it won’t be long the Jerry changes his mind and throws him in the mix.
The Kentucky bred son of Pleasantly Perfect, out of mare Stylish Manner by Touch Gold, Nonios won his maiden special weight race at first asking over a distance of 6 furlongs at Golden Gate Fields by a margin of 2 ¼ lengths, as he defeated German Bay in
second and Sunny One in third, with the winning time of 1 minute and 10.40 seconds on 11 February, 2012.
Nonios in the process under jockey Russell Baze earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 79. The sophomore colt was impressive in his debut race, but he was spectacular in his second race, a Golden Gate first level optional $32,000 claimer over a distance of 1 mile.
The stretch in distance showed how versatile Nonios can be, but in the manner he approached the race and won it was exceptional, as he downed Unveiled Heat and Diamond of Blue, who finished second and third, respectively, while Nonios covered the 1 mile
distance in 1 minute and 37.43 seconds.
However, the best thing about the run was earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 91, which his stable mate, Russian Greek after multiple stakes wasn’t able to achieve, but Nonios equaled Rousing Sermon’s Beyer in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity, when he finished
second.
Longview Drive takes the cake, as he earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 97, when he went on to finish third in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes at Santa Anita Park earlier this year.
Nonios turned in 12 workouts before his debut, as he was sidelined in the 24 June, 2011, but not before regularly working at Hollywood Park for his trainer. His super sire Pacific Classic is a Breeders’ Cup Classic winner, so distance is not going to be
a problem for Nonios, but he might be saved in the Triple Crown, and would be put on the Breeders’ Cup trail at the end of the year.
