Nonito Donaire Jr. going through a hand injury – Boxing news
After successfully defeating the Puerto Rican Wilfredo Vazquez through a 12-round split decision, Nonita ‘the Filipino Flash’ Donaire became yet another reason for the people of Philippines to be proud.
However, during the whole course of action, Donaire reportedly went through a severe hand injury. He is scheduled to visit his doctor on Monday, in Las Vegas, to find out the extent of the injury.
Nonito Donaire will be fighting Jorge Arce, the Mexican macho man, next. He already defeated Wilfredo convincingly proving he is the next Manny Pacquiao. However, if the Filipino Flash is unable to recover from his injury, he might have to sit back for some
time to face other fiercer fighters. As history has it, most fighters who have suffered with such injuries never made it back to the ring in the same form, take Margarito as an example. If he recovers well he will be in the ring by May against the aforementioned
opponent.
The injury report was revealed by Nonito’s American manager Cameron Dunkin. After a few hours of the fight, Cameron said that although the pain has reduced to quite an extent, they still need to see a doctor in order to get an insight of what’s it all about.
He further asserted, “If everything turns out okay (during the examination), Nonito will fight sometime in May either in Las Vegas or Los Angeles.”
He further said that the Filipino Flash is still in San Antonio and will be returning to his home town once this hand injury issue is over.
Throughout the fight, it was pretty apparent that Donaire was in agony, and in the post-fight conference, Donaire accepted this by saying, “When I knocked him down in the ninth round, that was the end of the hand. I was in agony.”
He further said that Wilfredo is a tough fighter who gave him a tough time. According to Donaire, if Wilfredo had tried a bit harder he might have overtaken him. However, that did not happen and Donaire walked away with the title. As of now, Donaire has
a hand injury yet he is all excited to go for his next bout and hoist the nation’s flag for the world to see it.
