Nonito Donaire arrives in San Antonio for bout against Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. – Boxing news
Nonito “the Filipino Flash” Donaire, three-time world champion, finally arrived in San Antonio on Monday, January 30, 2012.
Nonito is scheduled to take on the former World Champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. on Saturday, February 4, for the currently vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) super-bantamweight title. The bout will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing.
The fight between both the top-notch superstars is being promoted by Top Rank along with All Star Boxing and Tecate and Zanfer Promotions. Viewers of the event will also witness the battle between the current undefeated WBC World Middleweight Champion Julio
Cesar Chavez Jr. against Marco Antonio Rubio.
Donaire commented on his opponent said that Vazquez is a tough fighter and someone who does not back off easily and that he has the same Mexican spirit as the great Mexican Fernando Montiel. It should be noted here that Donaire was able to beat Montiel in
just two rounds which made him the WBO and WBC bantamweight title winner a year back.
He said, “They have good form, good movement, and it’s easy to read because they are somewhat text book.”
Adding more to it, he said, “But I can’t take him lightly because he’s very determined to beat me. So he’ll pull everything in his arsenal to try to do that. When you have two guys who are in good form, who know their basics from jabs to straight, it’s usually
you will see a great fight, great opening.”
As of now, it is pretty apparent that Donaire is training hard for the fight. He looks confident and in high spirits.
On his training, the Filipino Flash remarked, “I want to look great, I want to look awesome, I want to look fast, and I want to look fantastic.”
He has been training for quite some time now. On his efforts and his weight, the former champion said that he feels good about the fact that he does not have to cut a lot of his weight right now since he is already prepared physically.
There are currently no updates on Nonito’s opponents and his training which has made Nonito the favourite by 7-1.
