Nonito Donaire could become the next Manny Pacquiao
World bantamweight champion Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire could be the next boxing superstar like Manny Pacquiao.
Nonito Donaire crushed expert Mexican fighter Fernando Montiel by means of a violent second-round technical knockout in their clash on February 19, 2011 in Las Vegas to protect the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization bantamweight titles.

According to the famous Ring Magazine, before the fight, Nonito Donaire was placed as number five in the list of top 10 pound-for-pound fighters of the world. Manny Pacquiao was on top of the list.

Many boxing professionals believe that defeating Montiel can give rise to Filipino’s popularity and he will definitely improve his position as the top ranked pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire are of similar background as both belong to Philippines. Simultaneously, both are the champions of Las Vegas. Eastside boxing writer James Slater, meanwhile, said Donaire’s rise to the top of the P4P list is probably
inevitable.
An analyst of Las Vegas Sun’s Case, Keefer said that they spent their early days in General Santos and they were recognised professional boxers before their 20th birthday in one of the smallest weight classes. They were supposed to have
multiple championships at the age of just 28. It is an honour for Philippines that their two superstars are on the famous world ranking P4P list of Ring Magazine.
Robert ‘Bob’ Arum, Founder and chief of Top Rank, a professional boxing promotion company based in Las Vegas said people will experience lot of things of Donaire similar to what we saw with Manny Pacquiao.
In 2011, Manny Pacquiao does not have too many more competitions. Looking at Floyd Mayweather, he cannot appear again in the ring because he has to deal with his legal affairs. Sergio Martinez is getting old. He is now 35 years old unable to continue
his boxing career.
The Filipino great is going to fight a number of hard opponents to look at in the coming future. So it is imaginable without a doubt that one day, we will see Donaire on top of list among top ten world boxing P4P stars.
Dan Rafael, a famous boxing observer, on the other hand believes that Donaire is already on number three P4P world boxing ranking now just after Manny Pacquiao and Sergio Martinez who are great champions.

He also said that Donaire is going in the same direction with the same passion as that of Manny Pacquiao.
Donaire banged Montiel knocked out in second round and claimed championship title with his name in the third weight class in February 2011. Montiel always proves to be a tough boxing opposition and winning against him was a great effort. He brought
happiness and joy of conquering the Mexican warrior for his country.
Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao started his career with flyweight division and Donaire has been the flyweight champion for a long time. Donaire is the holder of interim light bantamweight belt as well.
As far as Donaire’s personal views are concerned, he welcomed the comparison wholeheartedly. It is like giving more honour and recognition while comparing with a boxing great. He said his eyes are still on his compatriot.
Let’s see if Donaire becomes the number one pound-for-pound boxer in the days to come.
