Nonito Donaire is ready to face Jorge Arce – Boxing News
Nonito Donaire, the current WBC Diamond Belt and WBO super bantamweight/junior featherweight champion, is ready to face Mexican fighter Jorge Arce. In his recent interview with the Manila Standard, Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire iterated that he is
ready for a showdown against Jorge Arce, if his promoter, Bob Arum, is looking forward to it.
“If they make it happen, I will,” said Donaire to the Manila Standard.
Donaire recently stopped Japanese WBC champion emeritus Toshiaki Nishioka in the ninth round, but the Filipino Flash himself suffered an injured left arm during the fight. After the fight, his arm required eight stitches to stop bleeding and is still in
the recovery process. In other words, Top Rank and Donaire need to make sure the arm is 100% before they move onto a fight against Arce.
“Why not?” said Donaire when asked if he is ready to go head to head against the Mexican in his hometown. Donaire is young and he is fearless. He is the heir to eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao’s throne of being the most loved person in the Philippines.
Donaire will be flying to Manila this Saturday from San Francisco. He will get his hand checked up before leaving for his hometown to join the ABS-CBN television panel for the showdown between Pungluang Sor Singyu and AJ “Bazooka” Banal.
In his last fight, Donaire gave his best yet he was criticised widely for not being good enough. Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza declined the opinion that Donaire was not up to the mark. He insisted that the young Filipino was at his
best.
“I thought he (Donaire) was good. I don’t know what everybody is complaining about. He fought a very sound tactical fight. He can punch like a (expletive). His hand-speed is also impressive,” said Ariza.
He added that Donaire’s “boxing is looking better and better and obviously that’s a tribute to Robert Garcia(trainer). He stole the show in a chess match.”
For now, Donaire is being considered the next big thing and probably the next Filipino to rule the world of boxing.
