  1. the reason why you have to be fitted for contact lenses is because the come in different base curves, diameters, thicknesses and materials.  and without the Dr. completing a contact lens exam and using a keratometer to find out your corneal readings he will not know which one  you need.  and if you decide to buy them illegally from a beauty supply store, they might be too tight for you.  which means they will restrict your corneas of oxygen causing edema aka swelling

  2. Yes, you do still need to see a doctor.  If you have insurance, just ask for a regular eye exam (insurance will pay for it because it's typical maintenance on your eyes).  When you doctor tells you your eyes are fine, tell him you want color contacts.  They will help you get the best color contacts for YOUR eyes, and still give you a prescription.  If you have insurance, most likely, it will not cover contacts for cosmetic purposes.  Order your contacts from a reputable source, if someone does not require a prescription, they're probably cheap and I'm sure what they'd be doing is illegal.

  3. You need to visit an eye doctor so he can measure the size of your eye and make sure you can wear contacts. He will give you the okay to get colored contacts. you wont have any value for the contacts since you have perfect vision

  4. Well first off you don't want to ask for a regular exam as stated above. Because if you ask for that then it's not a contact len exam. It will only check your eye health and make sure you are seeing ok. But will not fit you for contacts. So you want to ask for a contact lens exam. If you do have insurance they may pay for part of the exam depending on your coverage, but some wont cover it at all. I would give the insurance company a call to find out if they pay for anything at all.

Federal law requires you have a valid prescription to wear contacts, regardless if you have correction or not. So any company you order with that is shipping to the United states, or is located in the United States will have to have a valid prescription to place your order. But once you get a valid exam you can order through any website or go to any store. But before you have the prescription finalized make sure that the brand that they have you in has the right color you want. Because you can only order the brand the doctor fits you for. Once fitted I would ask to try on some trial so you can take a look at how the color looks on you. If you don't like the colors ask the doctor if there is another brand you can wear. But sometimes you can only wear one brand because of the fitting of the contacts to the eye. And if this is the case you will just have to adjust to the color that those lense come in.

Once you get your exam, a good place to order the contact is through 1800Contacts.
