Nontraditional tattoos- abstract art? post modern? brushstroke? minimalist?

Hi,

I am looking for examples of nontraditional tattoos. I am interested in designs that look like abstract art, post modern, or minimalist and ESPECIALLY ones that incorporate the texture of a brushstroke or a sketchy line. If anyone knows any artists or examples of work or something I'd greatly appreciate it.

  1. You can do just about anything as far as a tattoo image. But there is a debate over the lasting quality of an image that doesn't utilize the outline. Black is carbon based and your body holds it well, the colors are made with a myriad of ingredients, some of them synthetic, and some don't hold up well over time, there can be color distortion and blurring. The black outline contains the design to a certain degree depending on factors like using sunblock etc.

Saying that, you can take any painting and turn it into a tattoo, same with a photo, drawing, crayon, watercolor, pen & ink,.. it can all be translated, .. but you had better check out the ability of the tattooist. An experienced reputable artist is good (especially concerning longevity), and a young new artist can be very creative, but often egos get in the way. You need to be aware of styles of individual artists.

As far as stuff that isn't trends, and flash, and what your peer group is doing, .. the sky's the limit. I'll see what I can show you:

Sorry that I don't have individual images that are non traditional, but I thought it better to give you an overview of possibilities.

I have self designed complicated individual designs that would take me a long time to describe. I gave you the link of the really ancient pasyryk

mummies tats etc. because they were and are still very individual. My husband has 2 cave art paintings reproduced in tats.

If you can workout an image, and find the right tattooist, do excellent aftercare, and sunblock for life, you can do pretty much anything that you can think of. (whites fade, as do the lighter colors, and there are tattoo limitations, as there are differences between an image on paper or canvas and that on a living moving body).

Good luck with whatever you are thinking about

  2. It's people like you who really get the idea of where the art is headed. Thanks.

  3. what like having a tattoo in the style of a water color painting?

you could add brush strokes into that quite easily!

they have no outline lines, just solid colored. they're quite non-traditional if you ask me!
