Noppawan Lertcheewakarn crushes Saisai Zheng in first round – WANLIMA Women’s Open 2011
Noppawan Lertcheewakarn thrashed out Saisai Zheng 7-5, 6-0 on Monday to book her place in the second round of 2011 WANLIMA Women’s Open here in Guangzhou, China.
Zheng displayed some high quality tennis in a match that lasted for 1 hour and 51 minutes. Although she was tested thoroughly in the opening set, she dominated every aspect of the game in the second and final set to earn an emphatic
straight sets victory.
Lertcheewakarn had her chances to do well in the match but she lacked the firepower in several ares of the game. The Chinese paid a heavy price for her weak serves as she managed to win only 43 per cent of the points on her serves.
She put up a good fight in the opening set but as the match progressed, she started to make a large number of unforced errors and she eventually wore out. Ranked 265th in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, Zheng will have to work extremely
hard on her serving if she wants to do well in WTA singles world.
The 19-year-old Lertcheewakarn made a solid start to the match. She served with control and accuracy as she held on to first two service games quite comfortably. Breaking her opponent in third game of the opening set, she took
a crucial 2-1 lead with a break of serve. Both players broke one another at regular intervals in the set as some highly competitive tennis was witnessed.
Leading the game score 6-5, Lertcheewakarn needed a break of serve to clinch the 1-0 set score lead. Coming up with a series of great shots, she made a couple of set points available to her and then converted the first one to establish
complete control over the contest.
However, the second set proved to be completely one sided affair as world number 158, Lertcheewakarn dominated her rival with her strong baseline play. She executed the drop shot brilliantly. Without dropping a single game in the
set, she closed out the match to move ahead at the WTA tournament.
