Norbert Haug: Mercedes GP need a better technical package for 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP’s motorsport director Norbert Haug has said that the team need a better technical package for the 2012 Formula 1 season in order to take a strong start.
Haug added that he can see a lot of positive things in his team at the moment for a better start to the next year.
The team’s motorsport director also mentioned that they need a more technical package for the 2012 championship and that they should make a step forward towards their bright future in the sport.
Haug commented, “It’s certainly not good enough to be team number four in the long term but on the other hand if you see that we started two years ago, that we restructured everything and we had the resource restrictions and so on… what the team does at
the race track, actually if the package is a step better I think our team when it comes to strategies, to pit stops and whatever, we are quite a smart team.”
He went on to mention, “I can see many positives inside the team: I see total commitment from everybody, the mood is very good, the drivers are working together in a very constructive way.”
The Petronas-sponsored team kicked off to disappointing start to the ongoing season. Both of the drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher have failed to perform well at the circuits in the initial rounds due to some issues in their MGP-W02 cars.
The team driver, Rosberg seems to struggle in his W02 car throughout the season in order to put get satisfactory place in the end of the 2011 championship. His teammate, Schumacher seems to be strong on the grid against their competitors since the last few
races of the ongoing season.
In the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Rosberg and Schumacher came at the sixth and seventh positions respectively in the final race classifications after running on the sets of medium and soft compounds.
After completing 18 rounds of the season until now, Rosberg is placed at the 7th position with 83 points in the 2011 drivers’ championship, while the seven-time world champion is sitting at the 8th position with 76 points in the standings
at the moment.
Let’s see how both Germans perform at the Sao Paulo racetrack in the last round of the season, which is will be held in Brazil on November 27.
